CHAPTER TWELVE
Ryker murmured, “Dear gods, we have much to discuss.”
“When we’re safely behind walls in our own territory,” Harmony agreed. Grabbing her sister’s shoulder, she added, “How terrified you must have been alone, Hope.”
“He wanted to get Juliette himself. Transition into Montana Pack alone and take her.” She met Harmony’s eyes. “He’s not strong enough yet. Not for that.”
“And yet…already powerful.”
“Yes.” Justice appeared at her side. “We’re going to get your sister. I need time for one thing.”
He nodded. “I understand, Mommy.”
“Stay with your aunt and uncles as they prepare for battle.” Turning to Talon, Hope whispered, “Can we talk privately?”
“Of course.” He placed his hand at her lower back to lead her into the empty plane. To the pilots and attendants, he said, “We need a few minutes.”
“Yes, Alpha.” Moments later, they were gone.
Hope pulled the door closed behind them. When she stood in front of him, he smiled. “So many changes.”
“Yes.” She cleared her throat. “I need a favor, Talon.”
“Anything, Mate.”
“I need you to claim me, to Mark me, before we go into battle.”
His eyes instantly glowed and his teeth extended. He took a small step back and she could see the internal war he fought.
“I know the timing couldn’t be worse. I know it’s a strange request.” She pointed to the outside of the plane. “There are hundreds of Weres out there waiting to rescue my daughter.”
“Your injuries…”
“Healed.”
“How?”
She shrugged. “Justice lends me power when we’re close. It’s why I’ve been able to avoid going into Change.”
Placing her hand on his chest, she listened to the steady rumble he made and felt the strong beat of his heart.
“There will be time for patience, for exploration, when things are settled. Those we face today have consistently tried to use sex to break us, to control us, to get what they want from us.”
Shaking her head, she told him, “No matter what happens today, no matter what, I need them to know I’m forever out of reach. I want to carry the Mark of my Mate into battle. For them to know I’m no longer alone, no longer vulnerable.”
“Hope…”
“I’ll never be alone again because I have you.”
Keeping her eyes on his, she stepped back, shrugged off her jacket, and stripped her t-shirt over her head.
Balancing, she removed her boots and shimmied her jeans over her legs. Unhooking her bra, she dropped it on her pile of clothes and reached for the band of her panties.
Then Talon was on his knees, his arms gripping her tightly as he rubbed his face side to side across her hips.
Raising up slightly, he sucked her nipples as if time wasn’t an issue and her body would be savored no matter the demands waiting for them.
His body was wrapped around her. Hope could feel the heat of his groin against her shins through his clothes. The low growling purr he made was louder now, vibrating against the skin just above her mound, and it made her heart race.
Pressing the lower half of his face against her through the fabric of her panties, he inhaled deeply and released a low whimper of need.
